This Friday, December 9, Pap Ndiaye, the Minister of National Education, was the guest of France Info. The opportunity to learn more about the protocol put in place in schools in the event of a power cut this winter.

This is the question that currently worries millions of French people. How to organize this winter in the face of the multiple power cuts planned in France? While shops and transport will not be spared from these inconveniences, many are wondering if their accommodation will be affected by the temporary cuts. What about the protocol put in place in schools?

guest of France Info this morning, Pap Ndiaye gave some answers by presenting the measures devised by the Ministry of National Education. Even though “It is not a certainty, we are preparing for this eventuality”explained the minister at the microphone of France Info before adding that he was on the other hand “impossible to prioritize” schools in the event of a proven outage. Indeed, the temporary shutdowns will be organized locally and therefore concern all the infrastructures located in the targeted areas. It is therefore impossible to grant preferential treatment to schools.

Some schools will be spared

In the event of a cut, the minister therefore assured that the schools affected will not open their doors in the morning from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The protocol put in place regarding school transport and canteens remains to be specified. “We are going to discuss with the communities in the coming days to find out how we are organizing”said Pap Ndiaye.

Schools located in areas close to priority infrastructure, such as hospitals for example, will be spared these load shedding issues. These schools will therefore be able to accommodate the children of priority personnel (police, firefighters, nurses, etc.) whose establishments closed their doors in the morning. The Minister of National Education also assured that a “rotating principle” would be set up to “to prevent one area from being hit repeatedly over another”. Pap Ndiaye also announced the implementation of a communication plan in schools. The objective is to raise awareness among the youngest, a highly prescriptive public according to him, to the right reflexes aimed at saving energy.
