A huge workshop should have been built in the middle of a green field in the west of Bern. Despite resistance, the BLS stuck to this project for four years. Now she is breaking off the exercise and planning to expand and rebuild her maintenance facilities in Oberburg. «I want to solve the blockade. We no longer want to stand still and start building our workshop quickly,” said BLS boss Daniel Schafer in a statement.
A start of construction in Oberburg could be possible in 2026. According to initial estimates, the conversion and new construction of the workshop will cost around 200 million francs.
