Cantons fear blind flight in crisis winter

Switzerland is feverishly looking for potential to save energy as painlessly as possible. But the longer the debate lasts, the more nervous it becomes. Now the cantons are putting pressure on the federal government again.

For weeks, the Swiss population has been prepared for a low-energy winter by the authorities. The main aim of the campaign, which goes by the motto “Every kilowatt hour counts”, is to save electricity at an early stage in order to still have enough reserves in six months’ time. But the austerity appeals also have a strong psychological component: they are intended to make it clear to the citizens that the country is facing an exceptional situation.
