Cantons of Geneva and Vaud – suspected IS terrorism: house searches in western Switzerland – News

  • The Federal Office of Police and the cantonal police forces carried out four house searches in the cantons of Geneva and Vaud on Thursday on suspicion of terrorism.
  • The officials arrested two people, as the Federal Prosecutor’s Office (BA) announced.
  • The BA is conducting criminal proceedings against the arrested persons on suspicion of involvement in and support for the terrorist organization Islamic State.

The house searches took place as part of criminal proceedings opened in July 2021, which the BA conducted against a Swiss-Macedonian dual citizen and a Kosovan citizen. One of the two suspects resides in the canton of Geneva, the other in the canton of Vaud.

The two arrested persons are taken to the BA and questioned. The BA will then decide on any application to the competent compulsory measures court with regard to pre-trial detention. It is the presumption of innocence.

Intelligence involved

Apparently, the Federal Intelligence Service (NDB) was also involved in the investigation, because in addition to the two police corps, the BA thanks the FIS “for the valuable cooperation in this matter”.

Due to the stage of the proceedings, the BA does not want to provide any further information on the allegations against the two men.
