CAPELLI: CAPELLI CO-CREATES, IN PESSAC (33), A NEW GENERATION DATA CENTER FEATURING DISRUPTIVE INNOVATION – 05/15/2024 at 08:30

As part of their partnership, the CAPELLI Group and SOGEPROM are co-developing a data center (DATA+) in the town of Pessac (33). This exemplary project at all levels and particularly ecological will be the result of a demolition/reconstruction of a former France Telecoms directories data center for which Orange had launched a call for tenders.

The site is located in the Pessac Bersol activity zone, at the very heart of the Operation of Metropolitan Interest Bordeaux Inno Campus. A large-scale development operation, the OIM Bordeaux Inno Campus is an initiative supported by Bordeaux Métropole which extends over 1,500 hectares and 6 municipalities (Bordeaux, Pessac, Talence, Gradignan, Mérignac and Canéjan) and whose objective is to create a center of excellence for innovation.

Intended for a major player heavily involved in the development of new generation data centers, this innovative 8,000 m2 data center will generate more than 10 megawatts of IT for a reduced footprint of around 2,000 m

. As part of the reconversion of the site, a landscaped park of more than 2,300 m2 will be created and more than 100 trees and shrubs will be planted. The site will also include a data education pavilion of approximately 100 m2 open to the public and in particular to schools.

Imagined and designed by a team of experts, this data center will benefit from a refined architecture perfectly integrated into its environment with long horizontal lines and shimmering facades on which the green park will be reflected, thus inducing continuity between architecture and landscape.

Responding to the major challenges of proximity, confidentiality and sovereignty of data storage, this high-performance ecological infrastructure will also feature disruptive innovation. Indeed, today, data centers consume water and electricity to cool their computer servers. Here, a unique, much more efficient process will allow the servers to be immersed in a biodegradable, non-conductive synthetic fluid. This immersion cooling technique will help maintain all servers between 20 and 25°C, without resorting to air conditioning of the premises, thus reducing electricity consumption by almost 80%. Everything will work in a loop, allowing the heat released to be recovered and used to heat the building, but also to supply a district heating network to meet the needs of neighboring buildings. The necessary electricity will be produced by 1,200 m2 of photovoltaic panels installed on the roof but also by a solar shade installed on the plot which will increase the center’s self-consumption.

This respectful, sustainable and 100% French infrastructure perfectly meets the commitments of the EuroCloud pact which aims to contribute to the ecological transition of the data center sector in Europe by reducing their environmental impact in order to become climate neutral by 2030.

“We are particularly proud to carry out this exemplary project from an environmental but also urban planning perspective as part of the IOM Bordeaux Inno Campus. This new generation data center will be the result of unwavering commitment from the various stakeholders at each stage of the project. It will also illustrate CAPELLI’s experience and know-how in the reconversion and transformation of existing buildings. We are very happy to be supported in this achievement by our partner SOGEPROM as co-developer of the operation. “, vs
