Anthony Mackie is set to play the lead role in “Captain America 4”. Steve Rogers had previously given him the shield.

Anthony Mackie (42) will apparently take on the lead role in “Captain America 4”. The US industry portal “Deadline” reports, citing insiders. The star of the series “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” (Disney +) has concluded a deal to provide action in the fourth solo adventure of the Marvel superhero. Previously, Captain America was played in the films by Chris Evans, 40.

In “Avengers: Endgame” (2019) Evans, aka Steve Rogers, passed the Captain America shield on to Mackie’s Sam Wilson (Falcon). It comes as no surprise that he is now slipping into the role of Captain America in the MCU.

The script for “Captain America 4” is said to come from “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” creator Malcolm Spellman, according to the report. A director should not yet be found. In addition, it is apparently still unclear whether Mackie’s “Falcon” co-stars Sebastian Stan (39), Wyatt Russell (35) and Julia Louis-Dreyfus (60) are also in the film.

Since 2014 as a Falcon at the side of “Cap”

Mackie made his first appearance as “Falcon” Sam Wilson in “The Return of the First Avenger” in 2014. Since then he has appeared in a total of six MCU films before he and Stan got their own spin-off series on the streaming service Disney + with “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”.
