Captain America 4: the Marvel movie changes title to avoid controversy

Captain America’s next adventure is getting a name change. Title so far Captain America: New World Orderthe Marvel movie is now called Captain America: Brave New World. A far from trivial change on the part of the studios and Disney, given the heavy burden for some that weighed on the original title, much less for others.

An anti-Semitic reference?

The announcement was made by Marvel Studios through their social networks. The company shared an image from the set of the film in which Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford can be seen next to chairs emblazoned with the new logo.

With this new title, Marvel and Disney are avoiding unnecessary controversy that was bound to arise when it was released. The term new world order (new world order in French) is indeed a formula used in geopolitics, but also to designate several conspiracy theories, mainly anti-Semitic. With the growing rise of far-right and hateful ideologies in America and the rest of the world, the project had to avoid an unwelcome spotlight.

This new subtitle Brave New World also refers to the eponymous novel by Aldous Huxley published in 1932, translated The best of worlds in French.

Besides the title, this announcement gives us the first look at Harrison Ford as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, replacing the late William Hurt who passed away in 2022. In this Captain America 4the actor embodies a General Ross who has become President of the United States.

As a reminder, following the events of the series Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) has embraced his role as the new Captain America, becoming the worthy heir to Steve Rogers (Chris Evans). If the precise plot of Captain America: Brave New World is still unknown, the film will mark the return of Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, but especially of Liv Tyler and Tim Blake Nelson, 16 years later The Incredible Hulk.

Captain America: Brave New World is scheduled for May 1, 2024 in theaters.
