Cara Delevingne raves about her friend Minke

Cara Delevingne, 30, gushes in the September issue of the british “elle” from her friend. But not only because of the relationship with singer Minke, 31, the British woman is happier than she has been for a long time: she can finally enjoy her life after her withdrawal.

“I need to freeze my eggs”

In the interview, Delevingne tells that her partnership has made her part of the queer community. In 2020 she had announced that she was pansexual. “My girlfriend really wonderfully introduced me to a lot of things and people,” she said of Minke, whose real name is Leah Mason. The couple have known each other from boarding school and met at a concert by Alanis Morissette, 49, last year.

Her friend was one of her biggest supporters on the way to abstinence and one of the reasons why “2023 was the best year I’ve had so far”. The relationship makes her very happy and she can just be herself with the singer. Maybe Minke is the partner with whom she can make a big dream come true: As Delevingne went on to say, she really wants a baby. That’s why her to-do list says: “I have to freeze my eggs.”

Withdrawal wasn’t easy

But not only her love contributes to the new well-being. Since she has been sober thanks to withdrawal, a new era has begun for her. She hasn’t had a drink in nine months and says, “I’m able to live in ways I never thought possible.” About the time in rehab, she said: “It was worth every second.” It wasn’t easy, but now she can’t imagine a relapse: “I just don’t know what it would take for me to give up. I’m stable. I’m calmer. I finally feel like I’m completely free and can be myself.”

The 12-step Alcoholics Anonymous program and the support of “friends who have walked this path before and have helped me significantly” would have helped her. It was also good for her to withdraw for a while. But now she doesn’t want to hide anymore – and deliberately faces the temptations.

She recently celebrated at the Glastonbury Festival, although it’s often advised to avoid all drinking opportunities, especially during the first year after rehab. “There is no one-size-fits-all solution. I felt like waiting to have life again would have been my downfall.” Everyone can now see her love for Minke. At the tennis tournament in Wimbledon two weeks ago, the two openly kissed in the audience.

She thought she didn’t deserve the success

Cara Delevingne has suffered from anxiety, depression and substance abuse her entire life. She had a difficult childhood. Her quick fame and rise to become a sought-after It model didn’t change her problems. “It didn’t feel real. I didn’t feel like I deserved it. I didn’t feel worthy. I was still stuck in the attitude of not being good enough. I did my best, but I didn’t really appreciate every moment. Inside, I felt very different than I looked.”

In the meantime, she has largely withdrawn from the fashion world and prefers to work as an actress.
