Carbios, On, Patagonia, PUMA and Salomon join forces to advance circularity in the textile industry – 07/06/2022 at 18:00

Carbios has signed an agreement with On, Patagonia, PUMA, and Salomon, to develop solutions that increase the recyclability and circularity of their products.

The four brands share a common challenge: their ambitious sustainability goals can only be partially achieved with conventional recycling technologies, which primarily focus on recycling from bottle to fiber. Future regulations will require more circularity in packaging and textiles. However, the market agrees that there will soon be a shortage of PET bottles as they will be used for the circular production of food and beverage packaging.

This two-year agreement will notably aim to accelerate the launch of Carbios’ unique biorecycling technology, which constitutes a major breakthrough for the textile industry. Carbios and the four companies will also conduct research on how the products can be recycled, assess the development of collection solutions for used polyester items, and test sorting and processing technologies. It will also be a question of consolidating data on recycling “from fiber to fiber” as well as on circularity models.
