carbon to the brim

The third electric mountain bike in the Italian manufacturer’s range, the Ducati Powerstage RR is an enduro machine designed for performance, and in a limited number of units.

Ducati is not just about big thermal motorcycles close to MotoGP or the retro Scrambler. The Borgo Panigale firm has been marketing electric bikes for several years, the Futa road bike, but especially e-MTBs like the TK-01RR and the MIG-S. And now, the Italian manufacturer is moving into E-Enduro, with its new Powerstage RR Limited Edition.

A Ducati E-MTB with Italian sauce

Higher perched on its 29-inch front wheels (27.5 inches rear) and of course fully suspended on Öhlins m.2, this electric mountain bike close to the TK adopts a carbon fiber frame and geometry adapted to enduro . This includes the angle of the seat tube at 78° compared to 75.5°, a more aggressive position. And it’s normal that the similarity is there, because Ducati is still drawing from Thok’s compatriots and their GRAM-RC for the frame of this model. Fortunately, many of the components are different and often Italian.

The wheels are made of carbon fiber, still from Crankbrothers Syntesis, an American firm owned by the Italians Selle Royal. The tires are dedicated and Italian: Pirelli Scorpion. The special red and black Ducati livery imitates the Desmosedici GP23 MotoGP machines, recognizable between two pine trees on mountainous descents.

No SRAM motor like the latest Transition or GasGas, but a Shimano EP8 motor in a central position already operating on the Thok. It sends up to 85 Nm to the pedals and is powered by a removable 630 Wh battery. SRAM, however, is there for the GX AXS 12-speed electronic transmission, adjustable via application. But for the brakes, Ducati uses the rarest CNC with 203 mm discs – and 3 mm thick! – which would be able to better diffuse heat.

Competitive pricing and competitive availability

On the other hand, you will have to go out of your way to obtain a copy, because the Ducati Powertrain RR Limited Edition only reserves 230 units. It’s a bit like the first 50 MIG-RR electric bikes in 2019, leaving in 7 days. And the bank account will have to hold on tighter, with a price of 11,999 euros for this unique model. Mama Mia !
