Cardano ahead of Ethereum and Polkadot

Research and development has relentlessly continued over the past year as prices have slowed down the crypto market. Important updates took place, improvements were made, development goals for the new year were set. The analysis platform Santiment has the blockchain projects with the most contributions on the developer portal Github for 2022 evaluated. Among the front runners are the usual suspects.

Cardano goes gold

With a final score of almost 2,500, Cardano has the highest developer activity according to Santiment. The project thus defends its reputation as an academic flagship blockchain. As early as 2021, most of the Github entries went to the account of the smart contract platform.

The high developer participation is reflected in the many construction sites in the ambitious roadmap. One of the most important events for Cardano in network development in 2022 was the hard fork Vasil, which gave the blockchain a scaling boost. For 2023 there are other major innovations such as our own stablecoin or the privacy solution “Midnight”.

Second place for Polkadot

Second place goes to Polkadot, whose developer community is typically one of the liveliest. The Web3 project is not known to stand still, in 2023 several updates should ensure improved interoperability and scalability.

One focus is on the “Asynchronous Backing” upgrade, which is intended to increase the throughput of the blockchain to one million transactions per second. In addition to parachains, rentable parathreads will also be introduced in the first half of 2023. More about this here.

Cosmos secures bronze

Also always at the forefront: the blockchain network Cosmos (Atom), which specializes in interoperability. The interchain security upgrade planned for January of the self-titled “Internet of Blockchains” is likely to have caused the sudden increase in developer activities from the second half of the year.

With the Interchain Security Upgrade, other blockchain projects in the Cosmos ecosystem are relieved of the costs of securing their own blockchains. The customized security model aims to simplify the operation of application-specific blockchains. This is not the only reason why Cosmos is one of the insider tips for 2023.

No pain no gain

How active a developer community is only says something about the success of a project to a limited extent. In terms of market capitalization, Cosmos is the 24th largest crypto project. Ethereum, which, with the merger, has probably completed the most important update last year, is in fourth place in the Santiment ranking. Bitcoin doesn’t even feature in the top ten.

However, as a yardstick for the liveliness, i.e. further development of projects, the evaluation can serve as a rough orientation. The more innovative the projects, the higher the chances that they will prove themselves in the long term. On the other hand, projects with low developer participation can be uncovered as non-starters.
