Caribbean event – due to bad weather: palm trees on alpine pastures canceled

The planning was in full swing, but the weather finally put a stop to “Palm Trees on the Alpine Mountains”. The event will be canceled without replacement.

The “Palm Trees on the Almen” event had to be postponed once this year. Now the alternative date also has to give way to the strong winds predicted on the mountains. The idea actually sounds crazy, but it is actually sustainable! The palm trees, which were intended to serve as decoration at the “Palmen auf den Almen” music festival in Sportgastein at the weekend, help make the event a so-called “green event”. Only events that comply with special requirements may identify themselves as such. “We have received repeated criticism in recent years. Palm trees in the snow initially raise concerns among many people,” says organizer Markus Papai from Gasteiner Bergbahnen. Papai took the criticism seriously. This year he therefore only wanted to use plants for greenery that are currently stored in surrounding garden centers. Papai also wanted to use environmentally friendly concepts in the catering industry and when transporting guests to the location. A shuttle bus should run to the location at regular intervals. The restaurateurs pay attention to reusable dishes as well as regional and sustainable food. The organizer expected around 4,000 visitors per day at the weekend.
