The Swedish TV station TV4, its streaming service C More and the production company Filmlance ("The Bridge – Transit to Death") are developing the drama series in "The Crown" style together with Åsa Lantz (54, "Selma").

The series will portray the life of King Carl XVI. Retelling Gustaf from heir to the throne to monarch. Lantz is said to be exclusive material for the childhood of Carl XVI. Gustaf documents are available. "Other kings and queens are said to have influenced world events. The story of our king is different. Not highlighted as internationally, but at least as dramatic and fascinating. And completely unknown to many of us," Lantz said in a statement. The series is planned in several seasons with six episodes each. The project under development does not yet have a title.
