Originally from Hungary and born into a bourgeois family expropriated in 1944, Pal Sarkozy de Nagy-Bocsa arrived in France the same year. After enlisting in the Foreign Legion, he was an advertiser and a painter. Nicolas Sarkozy is the second child of his first union with lawyer Andrée Mallah, with whom he had two other sons, Guillaume and François. He remarried three times.

Carla Bruni-Sarkozy was also marked by other bereavements in recent months. On January 2, the singer announced on Instagram the death of Catherine David, the grandmother of her son Aurélien, born of her previous union with the philosopher Raphaël Enthoven. “You were like the living water of the song. You were not made to be pinned down. Nicolas, Giulia and I keep your smile. Rest in peace”, she wrote, illustrating her message with a youthful photo of the essayist, who died at 73. She also has paid tribute to three celebrities who died in 2022 : footballer Pelé, Pope Benedict XVI and fashion designer Vivienne Westwood.
