Carla Bruni delivers her point of view as former first lady three months before the presidential election

In the columns of Paris Match, this Thursday, January 13, Carla Bruni reveals that she has already made her choice for the next presidential election. But she does not want to make her decision public.

In less than three months, millions of French people will go to the polls to choose their new President of the Republic. In the columns of Paris Match, Carla Bruni, who knew the Élysée from 2012 to 2017 with her husband Nicolas Sarkozy, talks about this future election which is already on everyone’s lips. Emanuel Macron? Valerie Pécresse? Eric Zemmour? Has the former first lady already made her choice for the first round? “I will vote, yes, of course”, she replies. Will the singer, however, make her decision public? Nothing is less sure.

“I don’t believe that you should take people hostage with your political convictions. The functions that were mine when my husband was at the Élysée also make me the obligation of a certain reserve. That said, I has a lot of respect for the difficulty faced by those who run the country, like those who campaign. I have always been careful not to mix things up, I have far too much respect for the public”, explains Carla Bruni in the columns of our colleagues.

Carla Bruni: her criticisms of humor in 2022

In this interview with Paris Match, Carla Bruni also delivers her vision on humor in 2022. The former first lady regrets that we can no longer laugh at everything. “The new generation believes that there are things you can laugh at and others you can’t. I grew up with the idea that you should laugh at everything and that’s what was the very basis of democracy. We live in an era with a slight dictatorial tendency. Under an inclusive air… It is supposedly for the best, but it is done in such an authoritarian way that the people who have known the freedom of expression rebel”, she says.
