Carla Bruni facing breast cancer: this treatment that she continues to take every day

I was very afraid of death until it whistled in my ears.” Friday March 15, Elsa Wolinski had the honor of receiving Carla Bruni in her podcastCome on, I dare!. During this interview, the former first lady spoke about the passage of time, menopause, but also about her breast cancer, which was diagnosed four years ago and which she only revealed last October . Nicolas Sarkozy’s wife thus indicated that she continued to follow hormone therapy despite the end of her fight against the disease.

During this interview, the former model said more about this treatment that she must follow for “five or seven years” again due to “a pill every day” : “It is an oncological treatment which is generally done for hormone-dependent cancers. It is not preventive, it is an active drug that reduces tumors, which makes cancer cells disappear.” At the microphone of Elsa Wolinski, Giulia’s mother nevertheless admitted that the start of this hormone therapy was not easy for her: “I took it harshly for the first two years, it gave me pain, it made me gain weight, my hair fell out… There are better times to spend.” It was finally by listening to the story of a loved one that she changed her mind on the subject: “One day, a friend of mine told me that his mother had had a relapse of the same disease as me and that it was not operable because she was very old. So they just gave him hormone therapy, and within six months of treatment, his one-centimeter tumor was gone.

“I was lucky”

On the occasion of the launch of Pink October 2023, Carla Bruni revealed on her social networks that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019. Fortunately, doctors had then spotted her tumor in time, as she explained it to his subscribers on Instagram: “I was lucky: my cancer was not yet aggressive. Why was this cancer not aggressive? It’s because he didn’t have time to become one… Because every year, on the same date, I have a mammogram. If I hadn’t done this every year, I wouldn’t have a left breast today.” It is therefore to encourage women to get tested that the former tenant of the Élysée decided to reveal her fight against the disease, as she detailed it: “If I am making this post today it is to deliver a single message to you. But a fundamental message for all the women who read me: get your mammograms every year.
