Thursday July 7, 2022, Carla Bruni granted an interview to Madame Figaro. During this one, the singer made rare secrets about her biological father, Maurizio Remmert, a businessman based in Brazil.
A heavy family secret… Shortly after the death of his father, Alberto Bruni Tedeschi, Carla Bruni learned of the existence of his biological father. Maurizio Remmert, a businessman established for thirty years in São Paulo, Brazil, revealed in 2008 to be the father of the singer. In an interview given to Madame FigaroCarla Bruni first confided: “My mother, my father, my brother and my sister, of course, each had a marked personality. I also have a younger half-sister, Consuelo, my biological father’s daughter, I’m very close to her, even though we didn’t grow up together.“While her father was not her biological father, Nicolas Sarkozy’s wife slipped:”There was a lie. I always thought there was a mystery around my birth – but a lot of kids who like to daydream are like that.“
In all transparency, Carla Bruni revealed: “My parents carried this lie very well: they don’t have guilty temperaments. It wasn’t said because it wasn’t done at the time: those were other years. In retrospect, the discovery of this lie was not such a big shock: it almost relieved me by reassuring me that there was something. I questioned my mother a lot – the Stasi! – and I wanted to meet this father right away.Referring to her biological father, the former model explained, “He was 18 when I was born. My mother, 40, and my father, the one whose name I carry, 55. That’s the story. I had three parents. I laugh a lot when homoparental families are blamed: a family is a family, parents are parents.“
Carla Bruni: “She was afraid it would traumatize me”
A few years earlier, it was at the microphone of France Culture that the young woman had confided in evoking the death of her father: “It marked a before and after, like all the deaths of very symbolic people and whatever the proximity we have with them. It was a fairly frontal shock, a displacement like tectonic plates.“A few months later, her older sister, Valéria Bruni-Tedeschi, revealed the truth to her.”She is very close to me and she didn’t dare tell me. But if he told her, it was to spread the word I think… It took six months for me to make her spill the beans because she was afraid it would traumatize me“, she confided. Carla Bruni would have preferred that the truth come to her from her mother. She explained: “My mother’s eyes opened like saucers when I said to her, ‘You could have told me.’ And she said to me: ‘But you are crazy, how could you expect me to say such a thing to you? But we are not Americans! You have to protect the people you love and you have to protect them with lies.’“
