The Australian designer Carla Zampatti is dead. Her family announced that. She fell in Sydney about a week ago.

The Australian designer Carla Zampatti (1942-2021) apparently died as a result of a fall. Her family has confirmed her death on Zampatti’s homepage. “The legendary Australian fashion designer Carla Zampatti died in Sydney,” it says there, among other things. The designer was married twice and has three children and nine grandchildren.

Zampatti fell a few days ago

Nothing is known about the exact cause of death. Amongst other things the newspaper “The Sydney Morning Herald” had previously reported, howeverthat Zampatti had been hospitalized after falling after an opera performance on Sydney Harbor about a week ago. According to Rory Jeffes, CEO of Opera Australia, the designer lost consciousness several times after the fall while helpers took care of Zampatti and waited for an ambulance to be called.

Zampatti was born in Italy in 1942 but moved with her family to Australia in 1950. She designed her first smaller fashion collection in 1965. In addition to her label Carla Zampatti Pty Ltd, she also established a number of boutiques in Australia and New Zealand. Her fashion was also worn by politicians, royals and stars such as Crown Princess Mary of Denmark (49), Nicole Kidman (53, “Big Little Lies”) and Cate Blanchett (51).
