“I think I’m ready to play a role at Roland-Garros,” said Carlos Alcaraz at the microphone of Europe 1, partner of the Roland-Garros tournament. “Last year was my first appearance at Roland-Garros. I think I played some good matches, but I was an apprentice player preparing for the future. Last year, I am came to play matches, gain experience and I think this year is different. This year I’m a better player. I’ve grown, I have a lot more experience.”

“I shouldn’t put any pressure on myself”

The player from Murcia, in the south of Spain, has been following matches on clay courts since a very young age. “Roland-Garros is a tournament that I have been watching since I was 5 or 6 years old,” he said. “Since I started watching tennis on TV, I have always seen this tournament and for me being able to participate in it means a lot. I hope I can do a good job.” Today, he remains focused on his goal: “I know that I shouldn’t put pressure on myself and that I have to play my game and that’s what I do.”

On Wednesday May 25, Carlos Alcaraz will face Spaniard Albert Ramos-Viñolas.
