Carlos Ghosn case: French judges conclude their mission in Beirut

Second trip of the magistrates

The delegation, which arrived in Beirut on Sunday evening, had already heard a first witness on Monday. The identity of the two witnesses has not been revealed. “The French side has obtained the necessary cooperation from Lebanon in this matter,” added the same source.

This is the second trip by French magistrates in this case: last June, Carlos Ghosn was heard in free hearing for five days, for the investigations targeting him in Nanterre, but also in Paris, as part of a letter rogatory international. At the end of this hearing, his lawyers said he was “happy” to have been able to “explain his position”.

A bizarre escape

Aged 67, the former businessman, who has Lebanese, French and Brazilian nationalities, has been forced to stay in Lebanon since his incredible flight from Japan in December 2019. Arrested in November 2018 in Tokyo, he had justified his escape by claiming to have wanted to “escape injustice”, denouncing a “plot” by the Japanese authorities.
