Carmat: first implantation of the Aeson artificial heart

(AOF) – Carmat announces the first implantation of the Aeson artificial heart in a patient suffering from a tumor on the heart mass. For this patient, only complete surgical removal of the heart could be considered to hope for a cure. The implantation was carried out at the Marie-Lannelongue Hospital, in Plessis-Robinson (92), one of the 8 centers approved in France to carry out implantations as part of the Eficas study, by the teams of Professor Julien Guihaire, cardiac surgeon and Professor Elie Fadel, thoracic surgeon.

“We are delighted to have been able to provide a solution to this patient in a very difficult situation, and for whom there were no other alternatives than complete replacement of the heart with Aeson,” declare Professor Julien Guihaire and Prof. Elie Fadel. “Aeson represents real hope for patients with invasive cardiac tumors whose treatment options and survival are currently extremely limited.”
