Carmila goes beyond the objectives requested in terms of reducing energy consumption

(Boursier.com) — With a 20% drop in energy consumption forecast for winter 2022 vs 2019 across all of its centers, Carmila goes beyond the objectives requested in terms of reducing energy consumption. Thanks to its Low Carbon strategy initiated several years ago, Carmila is now in a position to immediately implement concrete measures to accelerate energy sobriety.

1. Additional energy sobriety measures to reduce consumption by 20% from 2022.
From July, Carmila joined the EcoWatt commitment charter signed by the Carrefour Group, which aims to immediately reduce electricity consumption in the event of peak demand.

In accordance with the measures announced by the Government, several actions are being implemented now.
They aim to reduce energy consumption by 20% from next winter compared to winter 2019 – 2020.
– The HVAC equipment will be set to deliver in the aisles 17oC in winter, 26oC in summer or a maximum differential of 7oC with respect to the outside temperature.

– In terms of lighting:
* Removal of amenity lighting (airlock, canopies, etc.)
*Implementation of presence detectors in office areas
* Extinction of illuminated signs and exterior lighting devices as soon as the center closes
*Continuation of the LED lighting deployment plan
*Sober Christmas decorations (100% LED lighting)

2. An ambitious carbon trajectory and clear objectives set for 2030

As part of its “Building Sustainable Growth” strategic plan, Carmila has adopted a low-carbon strategy certified by SBTi (Sustainable Based Target initiative) with the ambition of achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2030 on its direct emissions (scopes 1 and 2) and by 2040 on the entire carbon footprint (scopes 1 to 3).

The action plan put in place consists of:
– Pursue the certification of all assets: 93.4% are BREEAM certified to date. Carmila is aiming for certification of 100% of its sites by 2025 with a “very good” rating for all of its assets by 2030.
– Invest and innovate to install more energy-efficient equipment.

CARMILA ACCELERATES ON ENERGY SOBRIETY

*Implementation of innovative management of technical installations: deployment of intelligent automatons and sensors, latest-generation BMS (technical building management) integrating artificial intelligence to optimize operating ranges, implementation of a new “Energisme” energy reporting platform allowing consumption to be managed in real time.

*The installation of eco-regulators on the boiler rooms to adapt to the operation of each installation to reduce consumption by around 20% (17 centers equipped, 800,000 Kwh saved, i.e. the equivalent of the monthly consumption of a town of 1500 inhabitants)

*The gradual replacement of HVAC (Heating – Ventilation – Air Conditioning) equipment with innovative equipment and in particular thermodynamic and adiabatic roof tops which allow significant energy reductions (-40% at Place d’Arc, the 1st shopping center in Europe equipped with this technology).
– Act with all stakeholders to optimize consumption.

*Training of all teams and service providers in eco-gestures
*Census of actions implemented by all merchants to
dissemination of good practices
*Information for customers on the measures implemented in each center
– Review the centers’ energy supply strategy to increase the share of renewable energies in synergy with the Carrefour Group
– Initiate carbon offset actions with TerraTerre, a start-up that helps farmers in their transition to low carbon impact farming methods. 10 farms close to Carmila centers are already supported.

“Carmila has been pursuing a low-carbon strategy for several years, which allows us today to step up our efforts to reduce energy consumption in view of the challenges that await us this winter,” explains Marie Cheval, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Carmila.
