Carrefour: presents its water sobriety plan – 07/21/2023 at 16:31

(CercleFinance.com) – Carrefour announces that it has set a target of reducing water consumption in its stores in France by 10% by 2025, compared to 2022.

The brand indicates that it consumes a little over 1 million m3 of water annually in France, ie approximately 739,000 m3 of water per year for hypermarkets and 421,000 m3 for supermarkets.

The main consumptions are related to food production (production of bread and pastries, production of ice for the fish counter), washing (trolleys, shopping bags, waste containers) and cold production (operation of the vacuum pumps of the cold cabinets, cooling in the event of a heat peak of the unit heaters).

To reduce its consumption, the distributor claims to have implemented several initiatives: production of ice in the right quantity, deployment of saving guns on the network, installation of ovens with a steam cleaning system, investment to optimize the management of the internal network.

This action plan is also part of the Carrefour Group’s biodiversity policy, in order to reduce withdrawals from water resources.
