Casa Casi 45: Is Samsung the better Google?

In today’s episode, we review the launch of the Galaxy S22 series and, somewhat provocatively, raise a question: Is Samsung perhaps the better Google now? We clarify and explain why we think that over lunch at our regular Italian restaurant.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra has been available in stores since yesterday and is probably already one of the best smartphones of the year. We revisit this month’s launch event in the podcast. We focus on the question already formulated above, whether Samsung has dug the water out of Google in some points.

We’re specifically talking about the improved update policy, which includes four major Android updates and five years of security patches for various Samsung models.

Samsung’s strategy: sustainability

Of course, we have to be careful not to use the word “sustainability” too inflationarily. But at Samsung’s smartphone presentation, the topic played a major role again and that’s exactly what today’s podcast is about. With their approach, the South Koreans ensure that we can use the boxes longer safely thanks to the longer updates. In addition, more and more sustainable materials are used for packaging and hardware components.

As is the case with us in the podcast, at some point we get off topic and talk about sustainability in general and cars in particular. It probably annoys some people that we bring up this overarching topic so often. But it’s like this: sustainability is like a big bracket that holds together a lot of topics in our tech world and is becoming more and more important.

Feel free to leave us comments on this, even if you see it more critically. You can also send us voice messages and your statement might even become part of one of our next episodes. Telephone number and Threema ID are now available in the show notes.
