“Cascade of related facts”, five new rape instructions target the journalist

This is a new twist that the media Libération has just revealed this Tuesday, July 30, 2024 in the case targeting journalist Patrick Poivre d’Arvor. According to the magazine’s information, the former presenter of the TF1 news is the subject of five new instructions for rape and aggravated rape after filing a complaint with the Nanterre public prosecutor’s office.

This Tuesday, July 30, 2024, the news broke for these five new plaintiffs in the Patrick Poivre d’Arvor case, which seems to be far from being finished with justice. While the former TF1 news presenter has already been indicted in a 2004 rape investigation filed by Florence Porcel, a former colleague now 76 years old, he was indicted again last February for three new accusations of rape and sexual assault.

A rather heavy legal case as 22 women accuse the journalist of rape and sexual assault and ten of them have chosen to file complaints. If a large part of them were dismissed without further action on the grounds of the statute of limitations, we learned this Tuesday, July 30, 2024 from the magazine Release that Patrick Poivre d’Arvor is once again the subject of five new investigations for rape and aggravated rape thanks to the constitution of a civil party as explained by the plaintiffs’ lawyer, Maître Corinne Herrmann, who are led by two investigating judges from the Nanterre judicial court in Hauts-de-Seine.

A chain of accusations

According to the magazine’s information Releasethe complaints with civil action would date back to June 19, 2024, a little over a month ago, with a registration on July 4. If these women had already tried to file an individual complaint against the former presenter of the TF1 news, they had ultimately been dismissed without further action, even though the reason for the statute of limitations had been put forward. Ultimately, it is the principle of the “seriality” which was taken into account by the plaintiffs’ lawyer, Corinne Herrmann.

She explains that this chain of accusations allowed the constitution of a civil party for which “the statute of limitations could not be retained” before adding: “PPDA is presumed innocent, but the facts reported follow one another in such a way that each one interrupts the course of the limitation period for the preceding fact.” Among other things, she denounces a “cascade of facts linked together by the same modus operandi and the same presumed perpetrator“.
