The former tenant of Place Beauvau, in detention in the prison of Health in Paris since December 13, must be fixed today on his request for release. Justice considers that Claude Guéant did not pay, in time, the fines for which he was sentenced in the case of cash bonuses from the Ministry of the Interior.
Claude Guéant will be fixed today on his fate. Incarcerated since December 13, because he had not paid in time the money linked to a conviction, the former Minister of the Interior has since paid his fines and could therefore be released from prison. Especially since the prosecution last month issued a favorable opinion on his request for release.
An affected and angry man
Claude Guéant, 76, has paid, according to information from Europe 1, all of his fines by taking out loans from his relatives. Meanwhile, in the Élysée polls case, he was sentenced on January 21 to one year in prison, including eight months with a deferred committal order.
Which means the court wants the hard part of his sentence to be served behind bars. But the former Minister of the Interior appealed against this judgment, which automatically suspends the conviction at first instance as well as the warrant of committal.
After two months of detention, Claude Guéant is described by those around him as very affected and angry with the impression of having been publicly humiliated. One of his relatives confided to Europe 1, a few days ago, that he felt a strong feeling of injustice and that he was keen to restore his honor and the truth upon his release from prison.
