Cash for Rares: Felix Neureuther auctions unique bust

Felix Neureuther auctioned a unique piece at the ZDF junk show "Bares for Rares". He wants to buy "sports clothes for children" from the proceeds.

On Wednesday evening the ZDF broadcasted its junk show "Bares for Rares" from Drachenfels Castle in Königswinter. This time there was a prominent guest: Felix Neureuther (36). The former ski professional had a unique bust of a deceased sculptor with him. The price that Neureuther achieved with it was higher than the estimate of the ZDF expert. He wants to use the proceeds to provide children with sports clothing.

This is how the unique piece came about

Felix Neureuthers parents Christian Neureuther (71) and Rosi Mittermeier (69) participated in the organization of the World Ski Championships 2011 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and wanted athletes to win "more than just a medal". So they commissioned several artists to produce cup prototypes, including the sculptor Christian Peschke (1946-2017). Finally, the choice fell on another cup, but Peschke left the piece to the Neureuther family. "As a memory," as Felix Neureuther said.

Neureuther himself estimated the model made of pressed marble at 300 to 400 euros, expert Albert Maier saw the figure at "at least 1,000 euros". Neureuther was already amazed at this, happily accepted the dealer card and said he would not sell under it, after all, the bust also had an emotional value. Subsequently, the dealers separated by plexiglass panes because of the corona virus outbid each other. Everyone wanted the unique piece, after all Neureuter received € 2,250 for the trophy.

The ex-ski professional was visibly delighted with the price: "Old Swede, that was really good. A lot of children, including socially disadvantaged children, can do sports with it. The money equips them with sports clothes."
