Johannes B. Kerner sells an Olympic torch for 2,000 euros

In the Christmas episode of “Bares für Rares” Johannes B. Kerner surprised everyone as a torchbearer. Two plates provided the big presents.
Moderator Johannes B. Kerner (59) had packed a very special item for the Christmas edition of “Bares für Rares”: He wanted an original torch from the Olympic Games in the XXL program that ZDF showed on December 20th Auctioned in 2004 for a good cause. He was able to achieve 2000 euros. However, two old plates provided significantly more revenue and thus a real surprise.

Horst Lichter (61) welcomed his guests to the lavishly decorated Drachenburg Castle for this year’s Christmas edition. As usual, a celebrity was also at the start, Johannes B. Kerner. He had with him the torch that he once carried himself. Almost 20 years ago, he took part in a Munich leg of the global torch relay in the run-up to the Athens Olympic Games in 2004.
After a long round of bidding, dealer Walter “Waldi” Lehnertz (56) was finally able to buy the piece for 2,000 euros. Kerner wants to donate this money to Sporthilfe. “It was an extraordinary experience for me,” he concluded. By the way, he has had a long acquaintance with the “Bares für Rares” presenter: Lichter’s TV career began on his show “Kerner’s Cooks”.
36,000 euros for two porcelain plates
In the end, however, the mother-daughter duo Annette and Daniela had even more reason to be happy. The two women wanted to get rid of two porcelain cake plates that had previously been lying around in the cupboard as heirlooms. They hoped for 80 euros. But expert Bianca Berding (born 1977) immediately recognized that these were very special examples: the porcelain is part of the “Service Département” from the Sèvres state factory, which was originally made for the French King Louis XVIII. was planned and only included 205 pieces. Berding explained that the plates must have been made in a complex process between 1824 and 1832. She estimated the total value of the two pieces at an incredible 39,000 euros.
In view of Annette and Daniela’s joy over their unexpected treasure, even Horst Lichter had tears in his eyes. The dealers also recognized what a rarity they had there. They started with a bid of 10,000 euros. In fact, mother and daughter ultimately achieved 36,000 euros from dealer Fabian Kahl (32). After 42,000 euros for a relic cross, it is the second highest amount ever paid on the popular ZDF junk show.
