Casimir in mourning: its creator, Christophe Izard, died at the age of 85

This is very sad news that was announced this Sunday, July 31. The creator of the children’s show, Casimir, has died at the age of 85. Christophe Izard died “peacefully at home”.

It’s a show that rocked generations. In 1970, French children could follow the adventures of Casimir, that big orange dinosaur. But on this Sunday, July 31, 2022, very sad news was announced: its creator, Christophe Izard died. It was Pierre-Alek Beddiar, head of Osibo Productions, who announced this tragedy: at 85, Christophe Izard is “left peacefully at home, this morning in the Paris region”he specified, as did Nicolas Lemarignier, deputy head of the culture department of France Télévisions: “Disappearance at the age of 85 of Christophe Izard, a great figure in youth programs on TV. We owe him ‘Wednesday visitors’, ‘1 sesame street’, ‘Children’s island’ with Casimir and ‘The village in the clouds ”he wrote.

Sad news for the one who had marked children’s programs in France. After studying law, Christophe Izard turned to a journalistic career. It was in 1968 that he joined the ORTF. Six years later, he created and produced Children’s Island. He will also write the famous credits, which starts like this: “The time has come for laughter and song…”. The children’s program will first be broadcast on ORTF then France 3 and TF1 until 1982, after the broadcast of 1000 episodes.

Christophe Izard: limitless imagination

In 1975, Christophe Izard will offer a new program, entitled Wednesday visitors, with cartoons like Barbapapa and the black Prince. He also wants to replace children’s island by The village in the clouds. But in 1987, he was ousted from La Une, privatized and joined Antenne 2. Again, his imagination is limitless, since he will create the cartoon Albert the Fifth Musketeer. HASith his disappearance, all his creativity and imagination take flight with him. Casimir is now an orphan, like many French people, rocked by these shows.
