A first Supercharger station will open in a Casino hypermarket car park in the fall of 2022. Thirty other sites are being studied to allow customers to recharge their vehicles.
France now has around a hundred Supercharger stations. Tesla’s charging stations, which are currently open to electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles of all brands (depending on the socket and its location), are mainly located near major roads (excluding charging at destination).
But now the Casino brands have made a surprising announcement, with the installation of a first Supercharger station in the parking lot of the Géant Casino in Annecy scheduled for autumn 2022.

32 supermarkets equipped in 2023
Thirty projects with Tesla are under study, explains Casino. In addition to the Annecy hypermarket, four sites should welcome Superchargers this year, mainly in the south-eastern quarter of France, and 27 others in 2023, details The Parisian.
If some supermarkets offer free charging to their customers, or at a preferential rate, it’s a safe bet that this is not the case with these Superchargers. In France, Tesla currently applies a cost of €0.36/kWh for owners of the brand’s vehicles. Other users must pay between 0.56 and 0.38 €/kWh. This latter rate is subject to a non-binding monthly subscription of €12.99.
Indeed, these are fast charging terminals (direct current), with a power of 250 kW (V3 Superchargers), at high cost for the operator. Above all, they have been designed for long journeys.
Suddenly, for 30 min races and if Tesla keeps this pricing, a “basic” Tesla Model 3 that arrives with a battery level of 20% will be able to leave with more than 80% charge… and a bill of around €13. .
Supercharger prices are in the middle of those charged by fast charging networks, but in the case of charging in the car park of a supermarket, the bill may seem steep. We therefore imagine that these Superchargers are aimed above all at customers of the charging network who will benefit from a nearby supermarket, rather than the reverse.
“Tesla was looking for a partner to strengthen itself on the main holiday routes that connect Northern Europe, the South of France as well as Spain and Italy”explains Tina Schuler, general manager of Géant Casino. “The sites chosen will be easily accessible from motorway exits and will also allow our customers to do their shopping during loading time.”
