Casio puts Polar in its G-Shock GBD-H2000 connected multisport watch

Generally hesitant about the idea of ​​sharing their technologies, watch manufacturers are instead making sure to introduce more and more exclusivities to highlight their novelties. Against the current, Polar has just announced the availability of its fitness algorithms to partners. The first fruit of this decision appears in Casio’s G-Shock range. It is therefore the G-Shock GBD-H2000, which succeeds the GBD-H1000 and introduces the famous Polar algorithms.

Still imposing, much lighter

Faithful to the very particular style of the G-Shock, the GBD-H2000 differs from its elder by its relative lightness, Casio announcing a weight reduced by 38%, to 63 g, thanks to a more compact case and a reinforced fiberglass back. carbon. It must be said that with its 101 g, the GBD-H1000 was a heavyweight in the category.

In terms of finesse, however, it will be necessary to go back, since the newcomer is still approaching 2 cm thick (19.4 mm)! The G-Shock range has never been known for its discretion anyway and it is therefore not this GBD-H2000 that will change the situation. Lovers of its design will not be rushed.

High sealing

Consequence of this size or not, its 20 ATM water resistance will in any case ensure that you can practice all water sports and even diving without fear of a failure of the watch. However, you will have to be satisfied with the 8 sports profiles of the watch: running, trail running, swimming in the pool and in open water, cycling, walking, gymnastics and interval training.

Largely reinforced, the case of the GBD-H2000 is made to protect the screen of the watch, which is protected by a scratch-resistant mineral glass.

Despite a trend towards ever more defined and contrasting screens, Casio is showing a certain conservatism for its new watch, which has to make do with a seemingly rather basic monochrome LCD screen, in line with those of the other G -Shock. Sufficient despite everything to clearly display the main information, according to the visuals presented by Casio.

Solar charging to display the time continuously

This screen, however, houses a solar charging technology offering the watch virtually unlimited autonomy if it is only a question of displaying the time (charge of 8 hours/day under 500 lux or 2 hours/week in direct sunlight at 10,000 lux, according to Casio).

The Japanese manufacturer, on the other hand, is not very verbose when it comes to talking about the autonomy of its watch in sports or connected use. You have to dig deep in the manual to find information on this subject, which quickly makes you understand the reasons for such silence. Despite its generous dimensions, the GBD-H2000 is indeed limited to 7 days of autonomy with continuous heart rate measurement and sleep monitoring. In GPS mode, the watch would reach 16 hours of autonomy, which is ultimately not much for a vintage 2023 sports watch.

Polar algorithms to the rescue

As far as the sensors are concerned, we find the classic optical heart rate monitor, the barometric altimeter, the compass and the temperature sensor, to which is added a pulse oximeter (SpO2 saturometer).

So many sensors used to collect data that are used precisely to feed Polar’s algorithms. The G-Shock GBD-H2000 thus becomes capable of analyzing the performance and physical condition of its wearer: calculation of VO2 Max, cardio load, training status, FuelWise to manage food during exercise, Nightly recharge ( sleep tracking with SNA status) and finally Serene (guided breathing). Functions that appear on the watch screen and in the Casio Watches app.
