Castlevania: Konami launches in turn in NFT with a Memorial collection auctioned for the 35 years of the license

If there is one sensitive subject in the world of video games in recent weeks, it is that of NFT, non-fungible tokens authenticated using the protocol of the blockchain, in particular associated with digital objects thus making them unique. Publishers, and especially their shareholders, seem to see in it a new El Dorado to be conquered since after Ubisoft and his Digits it’s the turn of Konami to get started… but not in a game at the moment. Konami Memorial NFTis the little name given to a collection that will celebrate the 35th anniversary of Castlevania. Clearly, the players would have done well without this “gift”!

The press release relating the news tells us that 14 artworks (game scenes, BGM, illustrations) totally virtual will thus be auctioned on OpenSea January 12 at 11:00 p.m. in France. Besides, here’s what to remember:

Konami Memorial NFT is a new initiative to share content loved by gamers around the world for many years. Following this first project in the field of blockchain technology and NFTs, which are in their infancy, Konami will continue to explore new avenues and listen to player feedback on this initial collection.

Selection of works from the Konami Memorial NFT collection:

  • Castlevania – “Dracula’s Castle Pixel Art”

New artwork for the collection, this pixel art is based on the map of Dracula’s castle that appears in the original game. The corresponding levels and creatures have been added to relive the action.

  • Castlevania – “Vampire Killer”

The iconic first level (Block 1) music from the original Castlevania, presented as a video compiling many game scenes.

  • Castlevania – “Highlights”

A montage of different gameplay sequences, which focuses on the most memorable scenes for Castlevania fans. The film condenses the annals of the famous vampire hunter Simon Belmont and his attack on Dracula’s Castle, in 3 minutes and 34 seconds.

Hopefully, the license’s 35th anniversary celebrations are not limited to these NFT and to Castlevania Advance Collection (sold € 17.99 on Gamesplanet for pc). A recent rumor was that a reboot either in development, without further details. Short, wait & see like always, Konami “Evaluating new opportunities for titles that will exceed player expectations” in addition to supporting existing games according to the same press release. In any case, there would be nothing surprising to see other cult series from the publisher suffer the same fate in the future.
