(CercleFinance.com) – Caterpillar announced on Friday that it would make an investment in Lithos Energy, an American manufacturer of lithium-ion batteries.
Based in San Rafael (California), Lithos designs and produces high performance rugged batteries for applications such as the marine industry and non-road machinery.
The construction machinery manufacturer explains that its investment in Lithos is part of its strategy of offering its customers hybrid or electric equipment that emits little CO2 in order to meet the challenges associated with the energy transition.
The group now based in Irving (Texas) recalls that it recently unveiled, at the bauma show in Munich, four projects for construction machinery operating in particular from batteries.
Cat says it has also successfully tested a large, electric-powered mining truck at its Tucson, Arizona, site.
