Catherine Matausch: faced with lung cancer, she learns another bad news

Like other journalists from France 3, Catherine Matausch was struck by an announcement from the group about the channel’s news. On Instagram, she let her heart speak.

Catherine Matausch feels “great sadness”. The journalist, who fought against lung cancer, learned very bad news during the France Télévisions press conference. This Wednesday, July 6, the group announced the end of the national JT on the antenna of France 3. From September 2023, the newspapers of Carole Gaessler and Émilie Tran Nguyen will give way to 24 regional editions, baptized Here noon and Here Evening. “Our twenty-four newspapers will drop out in full to offer complete news, and will be embodied by twenty-four faces of the regional branches of France 3”, explained Delphine Ernotte. For the boss of France Télévisions, it is “the end of a story that is obviously very difficult for the teams”. In the columns of Telerama moreover, several employees reacted to this bad news.

This is particularly the case of Catherine Matausch, who presents the news from France 3 on weekends. “I feel great sadness for all the teams, we don’t have the words. There is a real loyalty from the viewers, a special relationship with them, a simplicity and a closeness in tone. We are a family, and we have always made the necessary efforts, admitted the journalist. On her Instagram account, she also posted an unequivocal photo. “Trying to fall asleep when you have just learned of the end of 19/20 and 12/13 in September 2023 on France 3. So many questions”, she wrote. During the press conference, Delphine Ernotte justified this television revolution: “We will seek individually to find solutions. The work of the teams is absolutely not threatened. There is no reduction in staff, no increase either”.

Catherine Matausch: what will she do in 2023?

From the start of the 2023 school year, therefore, the national news will give way to regional editions which will also deal with national and international news. They will continue to be produced by Paris after the merger of the editorial staff of France 2 and France 3. “For example, the collapse of the Marmolada glacier in the Dolomites could be treated by Paris from the angle of climate change, but the Grenoble editorial staff could provide the local insights it deems necessary, and which will necessarily be different from the choice that Limoges could make”, explained France Télévisions to the World. As for Catherine Matausch, she does not yet know what the future holds for her.
