On Instagram, Cathy Hummels shows her son Ludwig’s face without pixels. An absolute exception, but the moderator has an important concern.
Söhnchen Ludwig’s privacy is very important to Cathy Hummels, 34. While the four-year-old is a regular feature of her Instagram photos, his face is usually blurred or shown from behind. In her current social media post, however, the wife of professional footballer Mats Hummels, 33, makes an exception – for an important reason.

Lost in thought, Cathy Hummels looks into the camera while Ludwig gives her a kiss on the cheek. His profile is easy to see, exceptionally not pixelated. It’s actually a cute shot, but the presenter’s facial expression indicates that her multi-line Instagram post is about a serious topic: the war against Ukraine.
As a mother of a small child, how do you deal with this topic? It is important for Cathy to raise her voice. “I [lehre] my son that his voice is one of the most powerful things he has. We have them to communicate [sic]”, explains the author and continues: “In a war there are only losers. I fight for my rights, our well-being, peace, love, justice … But not with weapons and violence, but with my precious VOICE.”
“My heart is broken”
Like all of us, Cathy Hummels is also affected by the consequences of the war. Her next words make that clear: “My heart [ist gebrochen], when I see children’s eyes crying because their fathers have to go to war.” The 34-year-old raises her voice and wishes for peace. She “fights for normality” – also for her four-year-old son.
Many of her followers agree with Hummels. One user writes: “You’re absolutely right”, another demands: “Stop the war” and another finds itself in Cathy’s words and says: “You speak to me from the soul”.
