Cats and loli are on a boat in Buccanyar, which will be released in spring 2023

Do you like exploring vast oceans, Japanese aesthetics and ship combat? If so, we advise you to relaunch the fantastic Skies of Arcadia, a game over twenty years old and yet barely less technically old-fashioned than Buccanier.

But enough of bad faith, we are not really in the presence of a JRPG, but rather of an adventure game which propels the player at the controls of his ship, whose captains are loli and the crew members are cats .

On the program the whole lexical field of piracy: guilds, corsairs, monsters, treasures and islands, and even kraken. While several heroines will be selectable with their different powers, it will be possible to choose between two major game modes: the travel which emphasizes exploration and trade, or the harbor which focuses on managing its ship and crew, both of which are fully customizable. With thirteen different breeds of cats, nine distinct weapons on the boat, three hull parts, annexes to unlock such as an airship or a submarine, and of course a decoration that you can completely change as you wish, but also a vast map to explore, it will take time to play Buccanyar.

Outside of concept art rather pretty, the game seems to show an aging technique, with textures from another time and a total absence of any dynamic lighting. At least it should run smoothly on Switch and PlayStation 4 when it releases in the spring of 2023. More information will be revealed at the Tokyo Game Show next week.
