One or the other will probably think this is a bad joke. But it isn't: What is currently keeping the Bochum fire brigade and reptile experts busy is possibly even dangerously serious …

Where do you certainly not expect a 1.5 meter long snake? At the local kindergarten around the corner. But now an educator found a real, stripped snake skin in the basement of a community center with a kindergarten and youth home in Bochum.

After the house had been evacuated, the fire brigade searched the building for the reptile last Monday – but without success. The basement was cleared out and even double-sided tape did not produce any results.

Sprinkled flour and several attached snake traps should now set the outlier. According to expert estimates, the potentially poisonous snake is about five feet long and is likely still on the premises.

Queue alarm in NRW

The spectacle is not that unique. Already in September 2019, a lost and highly poisonous monocle cobra was caught in Herne. A bite from this snake can be life threatening. In Dortmund, too, an apartment building was evacuated on New Year's Eve in which a snake is said to have escaped. However, the animal was not discovered. One can only hope that the experts at the Bochum kindergarten will be more lucky and find what they are looking for – because only then can children and educators return.
