The REWE own brand organic apple pulp is being recalled. The reason is possible spoilage due to mold or yeast formation before the best-before date has expired.

ODW Lebensmittel GmbH is recalling the apple product “for reasons of preventive consumer protection”. This is REWE bio apple pulp in a 700 gram jar with the best before date March 10, 2024 and EAN 4388844008571. Other batches are not affected.

Because of possible mold growth: REWE’s organic apple pulp is being recalled

The “reason for this is a possible spoilage of the product due to mold or yeast formation (fermentation) before the specified best-before date has expired,” says the press release. The product is widely sold in all REWE stores in Germany.

According to its own information, the company reacted immediately and had the product in question withdrawn from the market immediately. As a precaution, we advise against consuming the product.

REWE organic apple pulp can be returned to any store without a receipt

Customers can return the product in the respective store and get the purchase price reimbursed, even without presenting the receipt. The company apologizes for the inconvenience.

The dangerous thing about mold is not the nauseating fungus that forms on some foods, but the spores. These can either be inhaled or are not visible in the rest of the food.

This means that mold is not always easy to spot or taste. The mold spores may have developed toxins before anything is even visible to the eye.
