It was actually thought that FC Sion had their squad together when Joël Schmied moved to Valais on 23 August. But shortly before the transfer deadline on August 31, Sion got three more players: The Cape Verdean national team player Vagner Dias from Metz (estimated market value of 3.5 million euros, most valuable player in the squad), the Ivorian squad Keita from Westerlo and three and a half hours before the transfer window closes, Sion announces the return of the Brazilian Wesley from the Primavera / U23 of Juve. The right winger had already joined Sion at the beginning of the year, but had seriously injured his adductors at the beginning of March after outstanding performance. CC brings all three players on loan with an option to buy.

Currently there are “only” 39 players

And so for a few minutes there are 40 players listed on Transfermarkt. There are currently 39 because ex-Nati star Léo Lacroix is going to Australia (Western United FC in Melbourne). Still a handsome number. Is President Christian Constantin again collecting players with the same meticulousness as other stamps?

“Oh what,” he says. «I have one team in the top division and one in the third top division. It needs a few players. ” The number is only overwhelming at first glance. “I don’t count all U21 players because they don’t burden the contingent.” That’s twelve players after all. However: the foreigners do that anyway. Nevertheless, CC has seven places free on the contingent list after the deletion of those who left last, i.e. Zock and Uldrikis.

Iapichino and Martic are already scrap iron

More could follow. Mattias Andersson, who was almost always injured, and Jean Ruiz, who no longer has a chance in central defense. And the two a year ago brought in Dennis Iapichino and Ivan Martic as bearers of hope. All of them at FC Sion degenerated into scrap iron in a very short time. “I’m looking for a solution for them,” says CC, as they say in technical jargon. But maybe they won a place on the list after all.

Cunha is the most valuable summer transfer

Because the many players probably have the purpose of getting a “quieter season than the last”, which is the sporting goal. Some are also supposed to throw in money. Even three years after leaving RB Leipzig in 2018, the financially most important transfer of this summer was Matheus Cunha’s move from Hertha to Atletico Madrid for 30 million euros. “I get half the solidarity allowance of five percent,” said CC.
