Klingbeil sees pure panic in Union attacks

In the second triall of the three candidates for chancellor, Laschet Scholz attacked hard several times. SPD General Secretary Klingbeil sees the attacks as desperation for the Union. They have no answers to important challenges and therefore throw dirt.

SPD General Secretary Lars Klingbeil sees the aggressiveness of the Union in the final spurt of the election campaign as a sign of panic. “The CDU and CSU have been throwing dirt for over a week. The content is still nil,” said Klingbeil. “The Union is now under great pressure from the sleeping car to panic attack mode.” When it comes to the issues that are important to the citizens, however, it is “completely blank”.

Union Chancellor candidate Armin Laschet had attacked the SPD candidate Olaf Scholz on Sunday in the TV exchange of blows between ARD and ZDF – especially in connection with investigations against the money laundering special unit of the customs. Laschet criticized, among other things, that Scholz does not take responsibility for authorities belonging to his finance ministry.

Survey confirms trend of the CSU

The polls are currently putting pressure on the CDU in particular: two weeks before the federal election, the Union is behind the SPD in all major polling institutes – sometimes just under two, sometimes well with five to six percentage points.

In addition, the current “voter check” of the program “17:30 Sat.1 Bayern” sees the expected proportion of votes in the CSU continue to dwindle. After that, the Bavarian sister party of the CDU ends up at only 28 percent – in July it was still 35. The SPD has 18 percent, the Greens 17 percent. The FDP would achieve 12 percent and the AFD 10 percent in Bavaria.

Klingbeil emphasized that, unlike the SPD, the Union had nothing to offer in terms of content. “The CDU and CSU do not provide any concrete answers to the challenges of our time, but position themselves with their meaningless unleashing rhetoric as a party for the upper salary classes, for those who already have a lot and should get even more with Laschet.” Laschet is against raising the minimum wage to twelve euros and thus against a wage increase for ten million citizens. He was against a pension guarantee, against fair rents. “Instead, the Union continues to buck in front of the lobbyists in the real estate industry,” said Klingbeil.
