During its conference at CES 2022, AMD announced several Radeon RX 6000 mobiles, to complete its high-end offer, but also entry-level and compact laptops. Let it be said, NVIDIA’s virtual monopoly on Laptops
is well on its way to coming to an end.

No more playing. After the introduction last year of its Radeon RX 6800M, 6700M, then 6600M, AMD gave its first kick in the anthill by returning to the mobile GPU market with competitive graphics cards, able to confront the many Ampere chips. launched by NVIDIA in this segment. As part of CES 2022, AMD today announced eight new mobile Radeons that will complete them, including the RX 6850M XT: the new flagship of the reds in the graphics card market for gaming laptops.

More choice for gamers …

This afternoon the brand therefore lifted the veil on the Radeon RX 6300M, 6500M, 6650M, 6650M XT and 6850M XT for full-format gaming laptops, but also presented the Radeon RX 6600S, 6700S and 6800S which will come for their can be installed on compact laptops, such as the new version of the ASUS Zephyrus G14 (14 inches).

The RX 6300M and 6500M will aim to tackle entry-level NVIDIA chips, like the GeForce MX450, which they are supposed to beat down. The Radeon RX 6650M and 6650M XT will instead attack the RTX 3060/3060 Ti with improved performance (+ 20%) compared to the current RX 6600M. AMD’s big chunk, the RX 6850M XT, is probably the model that will have the most work to do. By developing 7% more performance than the current RX 6800M, this new chip will have to grapple with the RTX 3080, or even the faster models that NVIDIA should announce during its own conference at CES.

… and more options for builders

With its Radeon RX 6000S, AMD seems a little more evasive on the question of performance. It will be necessary to see how these new RX 6600S, 6700S and 6800S behave against RTX 3050 Ti and RTX 3060/3070 with a reduced TGP. The objective for AMD here is above all to offer a good level of power in very compact chassis. The firm therefore emphasizes the energy efficiency of these chips designed to fit into designs 20% thinner than currently and into laptops less than 20 mm thick.

Anyway, very soon we should be able to gauge the performance of this new batch of Radeon RX 6000 mobiles. AMD indicates that they will be integrated into the models of its usual partners (ASUS, Dell, Alienware, Lenovo…) from the first quarter of 2021. The coming weeks should thus allow us to test these new chips ourselves.
