CES 2022: the smart mirror is back

At CES, the company ICON.AI presents the Sound Mirror, a voice-activated acoustic mirror that could really tell you who is prettier or prettier.

As its name suggests, the Sound Mirror is not just a simple mirror. The smart object acts as an acoustic mirror which, while you get ready in the morning in your bathroom, living room or bedroom, is able to send some music (among other things) thanks to its smart speaker, with Alexa assistance. The smart mirror is sure to be one of the attractions at CES 2022.

Is it possible to prepare, listen to music and hear the news while discovering the day’s weather using your mirror? This is the challenge that ICON.AI has just taken up, which is one of the start-ups that received the Innovation Prize at CES 2022, thanks to the Sound Mirror.

The Sound Mirror is actually a connected speaker disguised as a circular mirror. ICON.AI moreover readily says of its subject that it is a ” acoustic mirror “.

The only difference, let’s say visual, with a traditional mirror is that the lower part (which can also be the upper part or the side part, depending on whether you place it horizontally or vertically) is occupied by what appears to be the speaker base. The smart mirror meets the IPX6 standard, which means it is splash proof and nearly waterproof.

The Sound Mirror can be connected to your smartphone, thanks to its Bluetooth connection, which allows you to stream music directly from your mobile phone, for example from other rooms in the house. But it connects above all to the Wi-Fi network, thanks to which it is possible to take advantage of the voice services of the Amazon Alexa assistant, with the uses that go with it: listening to news, weather and music, alarm setting, control of connected objects in the home and access to podcasts.

In addition to voice control via Alexa, the Sound Mirror is compatible with many services, such as Amazon Music, Apple Music, Pandora or Spotify. Its configuration only takes a few minutes via the Sound Mirror application. This also makes it possible to adjust the sound emitted by the mirror, for example by adjusting the bass and treble.

ICON.AI, which marks the return of the smart mirror to the front of the stage (after Kohler’s Verdara Voice Mirror in 2018), offers a circular Sound Mirror in four colors: gold, chrome, matt black and matt white. It is also available in the arch format. Rather important details are still missing, such as the price, to begin with, or technical information on the speaker, the centerpiece of the Sound Mirror.
