CES 2023 – Asus TUF gaming laptops: new and updated

Asus has a particularly complete range of gaming laptops with its Republic Of Gamers brand, but it must be admitted, the entry ticket is not within the reach of all budgets. For others, who don’t care about 360 Hz screens or an RGB backlit keyboard key by key with the possibility of storing their profiles in an NFC key, there is the TUF range.

TUF Gaming A15, A17, F15 and F17 refreshed

The advantage of the TUF Gaming range is that with five chassis, we find ourselves there quite quickly. Thus, the TUF A15 and A17 are the models based on an AMD processor equipped, as their name suggests, with 15 and 17 inch panels. Inside, there is a Ryzen 9 7940HS (8C / 16T, Zen4) processor, but the Ryzen 7 7735HS (8C / 16T, Zen3 +) – renaming the Ryzen 7 6800HS – can also be offered. The GPU is entrusted to Nvidia with the GeForce RTX 40, and depending on the references, there will be RTX 4050, 4060 and 4070, all with a 140 W envelope. The chassis remains unchanged from the 2022 model: we appreciated during of his test the responsive 165 Hz panel and a powerful processor/graphics card pair.

The F15 and F17 are the 15 and 17 inch versions based on an Intel processor from the TUF Gaming range. There are exactly the same graphics cards with the same thermal envelopes, but with 13th generation Intel processors: the Core i7-13700H and Core i9-13900H, just announced by Intel. A version equipped with the Core i7-12700H accompanied by a GeForce RTX 4060 will also be offered in addition.

All these models will be available by the end of the quarter starting at €1499.

Real novelty: A16 Advantage Edition

A real novelty in the Asus TUF Gaming range, the A16 Advantage Edition. As a reminder, the Advantage Edition program is an AMD initiative. It makes it possible to certify models embedding a Ryzen processor and a Radeon graphics card from the manufacturer, while meeting precise specifications. Previously, the Asus ROG G15 model benefited from this certification; now, for lack of a GPU capable of competing with Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 4090/80/70, this AE model is moving into the TUF Gaming range.

The TUF Gaming A16 is nonetheless interesting, with a 16-inch IPS panel in 16/10th format in QHD at 240 Hz or Full HD at 165 Hz compatible with AMD FreeSync. A Ryzen 9 7940HS (8C/16T, Zen4) or Ryzen 7 7735HS (8C/16T, Zen3+) processor is responsible for animating the beast and is accompanied by the Radeon RX 7600S (95 W) or RX 7700S (120 W).
