Samsung Display announced on Monday that it will unveil a display at CES 2023 that can both be folded and stretched. Named “Flex Hybrid”, the screen can be folded from the left side and its right side can extend in width.

It’s a 10.5-inch display with a 4:3 ratio, which can be expanded to 12.4-inches with a 16:10 ratio, Samsung Display says. The South Korean manufacturer indicates that the Flex Hybrid is intended for future laptops.

Samsung Display will also be showcasing its 17-inch slider display announced last September to the public for the first time. The screen size is 17 inches when fully extended, and less than 14 inches in normal size. There will be two versions: the “Flex Slidable Solo”, which can extend from only one side of the screen, and the “Flex Slidable Duet”, which extends from both sides.

Full of novelties

The South Korean manufacturer also plans to unveil its 2023 model QD-OLED display panels.

QD-OLED is Samsung Display’s version of large OLED panels for TVs and monitors. They use a blue emission layer that passes through a quantum dot conversion layer to express the colors red and green as well. This method is different from LG Display’s large OLED panels which do not have a conversion layer and add white pixels to the red, green and blue pixels of the emission layer while using a color filter.

The company also plans to unveil 77-inch, 65-inch, 55-inch, and 34-inch screens, as well as a 49-inch model for ultra-wide monitors.

Samsung Display explains that it has applied a new algorithm, IntelliSense AI, and new materials to increase the brightness of its screens. According to the brand, these panels can achieve a luminance of over 2,000 nits while consuming 25% less power than previous panels.

Samsung Display will also unveil its new digital cockpit concept combining a 34-inch screen and a 15.6-inch screen. The company will also show how it reuses glass and reduces greenhouse gas emissions during production.
