Matter is, without much surprise, in the spotlight at CES 2023. Repeatedly postponed, this new standard developed to simplify and above all unify the connected home was finally launched at the end of last year, and the Las Vegas show is therefore the opportunity to discover the first compatible devices. Samsung’s SmartThings Station is one of them, and it doesn’t just support Matter to facilitate the use of the various connected objects in the home.
With his SmartThings Station, the South Korean wants to make it as easy to create routines as they are to trigger them. Routines can be created through the Smarthings app, with an on-device button triggering up to three different ones, depending on whether the user performs a short press, long press or double tap. It is also possible to trigger them via the application.
Samsung gives some examples of routines, especially for bedtime. With a simple press, the hub has the ability to turn off the lights, close the blinds and lower the thermostat temperature simultaneously. The manufacturer also emphasizes the simplicity of setting up the device, which will synchronize with a Galaxy smartphone as soon as it is powered on for the first time. The various connected devices are added by scanning a QR Code with the SmartThings application, as long as they are Matter compatible.
Object tracker and wireless charger
Samsung has also integrated SmartThings Find into its hub, which offers, for example, the possibility of ringing your smartphone to locate it using the hub. It will also track the location of connected objects such as watches, tablets, headphones or even SmartTag trackers for the same purpose, or to warn the user that such an object is approaching the hub.

We also learn that it incorporates a wireless charger with a power of 15 W. All you have to do is put a compatible device on it to recharge it. Additionally, charging a device can also trigger a user-preconfigured routine.
The SmartThings Station will be offered in two colors – white and black – and available only in South Korea, initially. From February, it should be available in the United States for $60, but Samsung has not yet announced a price and availability date for Europe.
