Withings is now also making the Klostein smart. At CES 2023, the manufacturer is showing U-Scan, a product that enables urine analysis in your own bathroom.

Measuring health data with a smartwatch is now part of everyday life. Withings now goes one step further and can turn your bathroom into a health laboratory, collecting even more health data using an app and cartridges manufactured for different purposes. The manufacturer received the Innovation Award at CES 2023 in the Smart Home, Fitness and Sports and Digital Health categories for the product called U-Scan.
U-Scan is hung in your toilet like a toilet block and analyzes your urine. According to the manufacturer’s press release, it is an informative source for health monitoring with more than 3,000 metabolites.
This is what U-Scan measures
The measurement is taken by cartridges, which, like the device’s battery, should last for three months. At least if you follow the recommended measurement plan. When U-Scan detects urine, a sample is taken with a pump and placed in a test capsule. Thereafter, remaining liquid is directed through a drain. Two cartridges are planned for the market launch: U-Scan Cycle Sync and U-Scan Nutri Balance.

Cycle Sync is designed to help women track their cycles. Note that breastfeeding, recent pregnancy and menopausal symptoms can falsify the readings. Nutri Balance should enable you to carry out a detailed metabolic analysis. Both cartridges are not recommended if you are under the age of 18. In addition to the data, the Whitings Health Mate app also provides you with assistance such as cycle predictions or training recommendations.

Withings U-Scan will be released here in Europe in the second quarter of 2023. The starter kit with the Nutri Balance and Cycle Sync cartridges will cost 499.95 euros. It should be possible to buy individual cartridges and take out a subscription for an estimated EUR 29.95. There are still no cartridges that are approved as a medical product.
