CES 2023 – Unistellar unveils a consumer telescope for stargazing, even in town

To observe the stars, there are several solutions. The first is obviously to equip yourself with specialized equipment, requiring specific investment and skills. The second method is to opt for an all-in-one solution, as Unistellar offers with its telescopes. At CES 2023, the company presented the eQuinox 2, its new toy.

An astrophysicist next to you

The main difficulty when trying to photograph space, apart from the technical constraints, is knowing where to point your telescope. Thanks to the application associated with it, all you have to do is select the object to be observed and the telescope takes care of finding it. A formula already proven with the brand’s previous products.

The eQuinox 2, with its dedicated smartphone app, and extensive field recognition and auto-orientation features, consistently points to targeted celestial subjects, despite urban light pollution. All that remains is to peacefully observe Mars, Jupiter’s Great Red Spot or the most distant galaxies, from your garden or balcony. In addition, the companion application provides information on observed objects.

In terms of specifications, Unistellar advances a 6.2 megapixel sensor and a focal length of 450 mm. Motorized, the eQuinox 2 telescope should offer up to 11 hours of use. It is above all thanks to image processing algorithms that the observation station makes it possible to deliver clear shots, despite the light pollution inherent in urban conditions.

The space conquest for 2499 €

Easier to use and more accessible, the solution offered by Unistellar is already open for pre-order for delivery scheduled for mid-February. It will be necessary to pay in exchange for 2499 €, a relatively accessible sum, which will not put off the most passionate astronomers. For comparison, the eVscope 2, the manufacturer’s top-of-the-range model, trades for €4,499. In addition, for any pre-order, Unistellar offers the backpack to store and transport its eQuinox 2.
