CES 2023 – With Mobilisights, Stellantis launches into automotive data and connected software

Stellantis continues to diversify its activities. After aeronautics, the car manufacturer will embark on digital gold. The Italian-Franco-American group has just announced on Thursday January 5, during CES 2023 in Las Vegas, the creation of Mobilisights, a sector entirely dedicated to data and connected services. This new division should offer its services to, in particular, the private sector (B2B).

Anonymized data

The Mobilisights unit will specialize in DaaS activities (data as a service) — data intelligence — and should market licenses for professionals, the “private sector, utility companies, higher education institutions and research institutesIn other words, the group resulting from the merger between Fiat Chrysler and PSA will use the data from its vehicles and analyze it in order to finally learn useful lessons for decision-making. To collect all of this data, the unit de Stellantis will be able to count on more than 34 million connected vehicles by 2030.

The use of this digital gold should also make it possible to improve its applications, completely independent of “other data providers.“In practice, information from connected vehicles produced by the group could be collected on a regular basis via the network and would be stored in the cloud. Only the cars of motorists who have given their explicit consent will be able to transmit such information. This information will be, as is already the case in the industry, anonymized and aggregated in order to produce statistics.

Customers will also be able to withdraw their consent to the collection, use or sharing of their data, even after having granted it.“, says the group.

Use customer data, for what purpose?

The data collected by Mobilisights will come from a slew of sensors present in the vehicles. Used intelligently, this information could be used to “personalized insurance based on usage“, “detecting risks on the road” or “traffic management“, evokes in particular Sanjiv Ghate, CEO of Mobilisights. “With its 14 iconic brands and millions of connected vehicles, Stellantis can rely on an unparalleled mass of data. All of these activities are built on trust, faith in our ability to preserve data, and the belief that we are here to create a better world.“, details the boss of the unit.

A commercialization of customer data intelligence that could pay off big. With the creation of this new unit and the sale of data-related services, Stellantis expects to generate nearly 20 billion euros in additional sales per year by 2030.
