Robot vacuum cleaners still have a lot of room for improvement, but manufacturers have no shortage of ideas to fill it, as we can see at CES: motorized arm for washing in corners at Roborock, steam station for more efficient washing floors at Samsung… At Eureka too, the engineers worked on improving the washing function, but they preferred to completely rethink the mop system. Also, the J20, the first robot to benefit from their work, does not include a vibrating mop or rotating pads, but a mop “rolling”.
A mop rinsed continuously
The Eureka J20 mop takes place more precisely around two rollers, which drive it in a continuous rotation. It thus rubs the ground when it passes under the robot; thanks to clean water and dirty water tanks installed at the back of the robot, it is rinsed before coming out. This system, called RollRenew, is not completely new. It actually works like the roller of the SwitchBot S10 or that of the MACH R1, but its two rollers allow it to increase the contact surface with the ground and therefore, potentially, to be a little more efficient.
Of course, the J20 can also vacuum the floor. Eureka mentions a suction power of 8000 Pa, certainly a little lower than with the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, but which equals that of the Eufy X10 Pro Omni. The robot also seems well equipped to navigate the house with a laser range finder visible on the top and a large window which suggests a fairly advanced obstacle detection system on the front, while a multifunction station relieves the user of the main maintenance tasks.
This station includes a 3-liter dust bag to empty its collector, but also two water tanks of 3 liters each to refuel the robot and collect dirty water. It can also add detergent to clean water, and dry the mop when the robot has finished, plus of course recharge its battery.
This Eureka J20 therefore seems quite promising to us, but we will have to wait a little before seeing what it is really worth, since it should only arrive on the market in April. Only a price in dollars is currently announced: $1,399.
