CES 2024 – MSI Claw: design and performance of the portable console leak before its announcement

Last week, MSI began teasing a portable console that will be presented at CES 2024 in Las Vegas. Shortly after, initial information leaked onto the web. The media VideoCardz has also taken the time to gather the first relevant details around this new competitor to the Steam Deck, Asus ROG Ally and Lenovo Legion Go.

An Intel processor to stand out

We first learn that the name of MSI’s portable console will be Claw, an English term which translates to claw in French, represented by a logo with colorful claws at the end of the teaser. On the design side, marketing images from MSI reveal a significantly remodeled ROG Ally, particularly in terms of the layout of the directional cross, ventilation zones and even the ABXY buttons in turquoise blue. We also identify the same format as the Asus portable console, as well as a circular RGB zone around the joysticks.

Performance tests published on Geekbench also reveal the presence of an Intel Core Ultra 7 155H processor. As a reminder, the latter is equipped with 16 cores and 22 threads, double the Ryzen Z1 Extreme on board the Asus ROG Ally and Lenovo Legion Go. The graphics are managed by an Intel Arc Alchemist GPU made up of eight Xe cores clocked at 2.25GHz. Finally, the MSI Claw should benefit from 32 GB of RAM, double the portable models from Valve, Asus and Lenovo.

In addition to all these promising details on the performance front, there are still many elements of the technical sheet to discover (screen, connectivity, battery, storage, dimensions, price, release date). As a reminder, last week’s teaser gave us an appointment at CES 2024, a show which will be held from January 9 to 12, 2024 in Las Vegas. There is therefore not much time left to wait before the Taiwanese brand lets go.
